Lidl Hungary has made a significant investment in expanding its logistics capabilities with the opening of a new warehouse in Kiskunfélegyháza. The facility, which cost nearly 60 billion forints or approximately €162 million, stands as the largest logistics center for the retailer in Hungary. Designed to support around 70 stores, this development is a major milestone in Lidl’s efforts to bolster its supply chain infrastructure.
Spanning over 83,000 square meters, the logistics center has already provided employment to more than 400 people, with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees in the near future. The facility is equipped with 194 loading docks and includes a substantial 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, highlighting its capacity to handle a diverse range of products efficiently.
Incorporating sustainability into its design, the warehouse features energy-efficient systems, including a 9,000-square-meter solar installation on its rooftop. Additionally, it utilizes waste heat from the refrigeration system for underfloor heating, showcasing Lidl’s commitment to eco-friendly practices. A 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area has also been established around the site, further emphasizing its environmental considerations.
The center is poised to play a crucial role in strengthening Lidl’s supply network across Hungary, with a daily dispatch of about 4,500 pallets of goods from the facility. This expansion is set to enhance the retailer’s domestic operations and support its continued growth in the region. Currently, Lidl operates 220 stores throughout Hungary and sources nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers, underscoring its dedication to the Hungarian market.
