Petrol Prices in Spain Surpass €2, Rising for 11 Weeks Straight

by admin477351

Petrol prices in Spain have climbed for the 11th week in a row, with over 150 service stations in Aragón now charging more than €2 per litre. The surge in prices comes as the national average for regular petrol hit €1.866 per litre on September 17, marking a weekly increase of 2.88%. Diesel prices have also risen, reaching €1.834 per litre after a brief period of decline.

The rise in fuel costs is largely attributed to escalating global oil prices, exacerbated by disruptions to energy supplies originating in the Middle East. Given Spain’s heavy reliance on imported crude oil, the country is particularly vulnerable to fluctuations in international markets.

Spanish motorists could face additional financial pressure with the looming expiration of the government’s temporary fuel discount on September 30. The current measure offers a reduction of 5 cents per litre on petrol and 20 cents per litre on diesel, providing some relief against the rising costs. However, industry estimates warn that once the discount ends, diesel prices could surpass €2 per litre, and petrol prices may follow suit.

As household fuel expenses continue to rise, the discrepancy in prices between different service stations is becoming more pronounced. This variability underscores the importance for consumers to compare prices to manage their fuel costs effectively.
