In the first eight months of the current year, China’s foreign trade exhibited a robust performance, as the total value of imports and exports reached 34.78 trillion yuan, equivalent to $5.18 trillion. This represents a significant 17.6% increase compared to the same period last year. During this time, exports experienced a notable rise of 14.6%, amounting to 20.17 trillion yuan, while imports surged by 22%, totaling 14.61 trillion yuan.

The trade momentum further intensified in August, with the total volume of goods imports and exports soaring by 19.8% year-on-year, reaching 4.65 trillion yuan. Specifically, exports during this month saw an 18.6% growth, whereas imports increased by 21.7%. This pattern of double-digit growth in both categories has been consistently observed over the past four months.

Interestingly, while both exports and imports have been on the rise, the rate of import growth has outpaced that of exports for the last six months. This trend underscores a continued strong demand for foreign goods within China, contributing to the overall expansion in trade activities.

This sustained growth in China’s trade figures highlights the resilience and strength of its economic activity, even as the global economic landscape remains uncertain. The data reflect a dynamic trade environment where the import sector is particularly buoyant, helping to balance the country’s trade dynamics.
